Four non-profit organizations from Lübeck receive a total of 400,000 euros to help people in Ukraine.
In many regions of Ukraine, essential medicines are in short supply, supply chains are interrupted due to the fighting, access to food and electricity is difficult or non-existent in many places – and winter is still long. In order to enable further transports of vital supplies from Lübeck to Ukraine in view of this dramatic situation, the board of the Possehl Foundation decided in the last meeting of this year to donate 100,000 euros each to four Lübeck organizations: the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein for its campaign “UKSH helps Ukraine”, the Technical University Lübeck for its Ukraine cooperation, the Lübeck Refugee Aid as well as the association Helfende Hände Lübeck, which is supported by the voluntary organization ePunkt in the financial processing. Each of these four organizations provides ongoing, important help on the ground in a different area, both geographically and in terms of content, whether by providing medical care to Ukrainian hospitals and doctors, by providing winter clothing, warm blankets and everyday necessities, or by procuring food and technical equipment such as generators. “Every day, we all hear depressing stories from our acquaintances or the media about Ukrainians who are suffering hardship as a result of this terrible war,” says Max Schön, Chairman of the Possehl Foundation, “so we are all the more grateful that there are so many kind-hearted, courageous people in Lübeck who are networked beyond the borders and who bring aid – sometimes under quite dangerous conditions – directly to where it is urgently needed.”
